Product Description & Reviews
This fine art print was reproduced on the highest quality paper to capture the vivid color and detail of the original artwork. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 -1942) (Italy) made advertising posters modern and collectible. Cappiello, who was self-taught, began as a caricaturist and escalated to the early 20th century's most acclaimed European artist. Cleverly linking products with vivid, memorable images, he produced 1,000 imaginative posters for beverages, ballet, literature, plays, travel and music halls in four decades. Leading the Art Deco movement, Cappiello's techniques are still vital to modern advertising. While Leonetto Cappiello did not date this piece, our original receipt from the International Poster Gallery in Boston indicates circa 1928. L'OIE D'OR depicts a golden goose wearing a crown against a pure imperial scarlet backround - the Queen of Fois Gras. This is an excellent example of Cappiello's work, creating a convincing design of infinite charm that effortlessly persuades. Foie gras is a food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened. This fattening is typically achieved through gavage (force-feeding) corn, according to French law, though outside of France it is also produced using natural feeding. Pâté de foie gras was formerly known as "Strassburg pie" in English due to that city being a major producer of this food product.
