Product Description & Reviews
Oat bran is the edible outer layer of the oat grain obtained by milling dehulled steamed oats. Oat bran is a very concentrated form of soluble fiber which reduces the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream, and reduces the low-density lipoprotein (LDL), otherwise known as the "bad" cholesterol. Once consumed, oat bran enters the digestive tract where its soluble fiber absorbs water and forms a gel-like substance (bolus), creating a feeling of fullness. This process removes calories from the body and slows down the sugar assimilation. Oat bran contains about 50% more fiber and soluble fiber than rolled oats. It also has more protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, phosphorus, riboflavin, magnesium, and zinc. Oat bran can be eaten raw or cooked as a cereal. To Cook: Boil 1 cup of water, stir in 1/4 cup of oat bran and boil about 2 minutes to your favorite consistency. Suggestions: Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, about 1/4 cup of your favorite dried fruits, chopped. Top with milk and sweetner. In 1942 a group of like-minded people gathered on a farm in Western New York and founded the Shiloh Community. Their common goal was to live and work together in health and harmony. To help support themselves and sustain their lifestyle they created a bakery and became known for their hearty, healthy all-natural products. Organic certification had not yet been invented. This was the beginning of SHILOH FARMS.
